As the new Canadian government is finalizing a plan to bring 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada – – to start life over for themselves and their children in a new, safe environment – – a group here in Peterborough has been raising money to sponsor a Syrian family. The hope is to relocate a single mom and her 3 children in the Liftlock City.
Local veterinarian Kristy Hiltz (from Sherbrooke Heights Animal Hospital) is part of that group. And Kristy shared some news on her FB page this morning.
Great news!! We have just heard that the Syrian family we are co-sponsoring has completed their interview. The next step will be medical examinations, and then more paperwork…. we remain hopeful that they will arrive in Canada before Christmas!
We are still fundraising for their care, as we are responsible for them for a year.
Please help this family if you can. And spread the word to your family and friends!
