I don’t know this family too too well but their son plays hockey against my son in the PHA and hockey people stick together so if you can give this a quick read and if you can help even better. I can’t imagine how tough this is on them. This is from Ashley Bartosh-Smith . She didn’t want to go this route but at this point has no other options.
A little bit about Mike. Mike is 37 years old and was diagnosed with cancer in August 2015, he had 2 surgerys before he started chemotherapy. Mike started chemotherapy on October 26th he had to do 12 straight weeks of this. 4 rounds of chemotherapy with 3 different chemotherapy drugs. The first week of each round he would do 5 straight days of chemotherapy and the following weeks only 1 day. Mikes last chemotherapy was on January 16th we thought everything was good the chemotherapy did what it was supposed to. Unfortunately that was not the case. Mike had an appointment at Princess Margaret hospital on February 5th where he found out the chemotherapy didnt work very well. He has tumors covering his right kidney and some on his left. He has lung damage from the chemotherapy. His insides are littered with these tumors. Mike will be going for surgery in March they have him on medication to see if they can reverse the damage to his lungs. Mike will be in the hospital 5 to 10 days in Toronto plus another 8 weeks recovery. Mikes surgery will take about 10 to 14 hours to do. He has a chance of loosing his right kidney, parts of his bowel, parts of his lungs and possible a main artery.
Mike is a family man everything he does is for our kids and us. He works his butt off to provide for his family and always helping others. We have 3 kids ages 12,9 and 7 who look at him as a superhero. Mike is a hands on father always taking them to hockey and fishing at our friends cottage, playing foot ball with them unfortunately he has not been able to do this for awhile. My husband is my hero and Best friend and kills me to see him go through this and to see our kids hurting. I have been off work with mike since August to care for him. We have many expenses coming up with this surgery such as food, hotel, gas, parking, medications plus our household expenses rent, hydro, groceries. Our families have helped us so much and have been amazing but we need the help of our community. We are drowing we are trying to stay where we live but it is getting hard and we don’t want to move our kids right now they are going through so much heartache right now.
Thank you for reading about Mikes story.
Thank you so much.
