This social experiment happened in New Zealand. But, it could have just as easily happened here in Peterborough.
What would YOU have done if you’d witnessed a young boy pulling food scraps out of a garbage can and eating them? If you said “Stop, and help the youngster out,” then you are the kind of person the New Zealand police force is looking for.
They’re hiring 400 recruits this year, and are looking for people who are willing to make difference in the communities they serve. This was the social experiment they orchestrated. And the results are a sad commentary on our society.
On Facebook, New Zealand Police clarified the boy was the only actor in the video and the reactions of those around him were, sadly, real. It was a 35-minute recording and 500 people saw the boy, but only 10 people stopped to talk to him and offer help.
