So it was determined the other day that Senators who were found to have their hands in the cookie jar will have to pay some expenses back, but not all. They got a break because, it seems, they didn’t understand the rules. For example, one senator apparently didn’t understand that taking a trip to Calgary in 2012 at the request of his party’s leadership to talk to a longtime Progressive Conservative insider should not, maybe be expensed. According to the senator, this man had “hooked up with a woman that… let’s just say the two of them out in public caused…. embarrassment.”
Well, this is serious Senator business!
Our public servant’s goal was to talk the man into dumping this woman. He took his wife with him to keep the trip “under the radar.”
To be clear, this is not him admitting to doing something wrong. This public servants from the Hallowed Upper Chamber of Sober Thought argued that it was a legitimate expense because part of his business as a senator is “preventing a problem from occurring.”
Indeed. He was directed to pay back $5,500.
I want to be a senator.
