Sadly, being on the receiving end of jokes, judgement and personal attacks is something that celebrities are forced to endure.
But, when an internet meme went viral over the past few days, the victim responded – – with a message filled with emotion and heartbreak.
The victim – – 43-year-old Prison Break star Wentworth Miller – -posted on Facebook last night : “Today I found myself the subject of an Internet meme. Not for the first time. This one, however, stands out from the rest,” he wrote in the lengthy post. “In 2010, semi-retired from acting, I was keeping a low-profile for a number of reasons. First and foremost, I was suicidal. I was looking everywhere for relief/comfort/distraction. And I turned to food. It could have been anything. Drugs. Alcohol. Sex. But eating became the one thing I could look forward to. Count on to get me through.”
The website that originally posted the meme has apologized and removed the meme from their site. However – – with the post being shared thousands of times over the past few days – – the damage has already been done, right?
Thank you for speaking up, Wentworth Miller. Maybe people will finally “get” that there’s a real person behind the person they publicly humiliate – – whether it’s “Fat Shaming” or anything else.
