I am very pleased to nominate Sierra Bengson as a candidate for the Kids with Class award. Sierra is an outstanding grade six student at St. Teresa’s Catholic Elementary School and is involved in a great number of activities that help others. As a parent member of the St. Teresa’s Parent’s Council as well as Coordinator of the Breakfast Program, I have observed Sierra’s years of volunteer work and commitment to many programs within the school. She has been a volunteer helper with the Breakfast Program since it began, arriving at school early every morning to help fill the classroom bins with healthy snacks and then delivering these bins back to the classrooms before the start of school. She is always happy to do whatever she can to help out. Sierra is also a very active member of various student groups who work to help others. She has worked for several years on the school’s Social Justice Committee to raise funds and awareness of such things as malaria nets for Africa, food drives, the collection of personal needs items for St. Vincent de Paul, etc. I have been awed by such a mature social conscience in someone of such a young age. Sierra is kind, caring and always willing to help her classmates. She is an excellent student and the teachers all think very highly of her. She was a winner in the school’s Speech Competition in February, going on to present her speech at the City finals. She also participates on school intramural sports teams. In the community, Sierra is also very active. She has been involved with the St. James Players theatre for many years, most recently appearing in the play, “Princess Whatsername”. Sierra is a kind, talented, thoughtful girl who never asks for acknowledgement or attention. I believe that she just truly loves helping others. She is exactly the kind of student who deserves to be recognized for her contributions towards making other’s lives brighter. I hope you will agree that she makes an excellent nominee for the “Kids with Class” award.
