Bacon gets a lot of love as it is… But did you know there’s a day dedicated to it? It’s a fairly new observance, but International Bacon Day has been celebrated on the Saturday before Labour Day in the US since 2009 – although a growing group of people have been celebrating Bacon Day on December 30th, a tradition that goes back to 2006.
You know, it kinda makes sense. There aren’t too many foods out there that cause you to repeat their name over and over when you first try them like this kid:
So what can you do to celebrate the day?
Really, all you need to do is eat some bacon in some way or another. I mean, it’s good to know how to pick the best bacon (and other bacon lifehacks) like one of my favourite YouTube personalities, CrazyRussianHacker shows us here:
You might be a little more comfortable knowing just how bacon is made… Or maybe not:
Of course, when it comes time to actually eat the bacon, there’s a few ways you can do it. You can eat it straight, like competitive eater Matt “MegaToad” Stonie:
Or, you could get yourself a Whopper topped with 1,050 bacon strips, like this reporter with the Japanese news outlet Rocket News did back when Burger King in Japan did their promotion where you could get 15 strips of bacon for 100 yen ($1.25 Canadian) back in 2012.
Or maybe host a bacon cooking competition where everyone tries to best everyone else by creating the craziest bacon dish. The EpicMealTime folks are a pretty good place to look for inspiration. Remember the Turbacon Epic?! (and remember when Harley Morenstein barely had a beard?!?!)
Or you could do up an All-Bacon Burger:
Or you could get yourself some “Bacon by Bacon” cologne:
Whatever you do, make sure you enjoy some bacon at some point today!
