I guess I should preface this post with a reminder that I’m not much of a cat person. I don’t have a problem with cats for the most part, and generally interact pretty well with them – be they friends’ pets, or the barn cats that hang around my parents’ farm. I’m definitely a dog person, so I guess I don’t fully understand why cat owners do certain things with their furry friends – like shave them.
Shaving a dog when its coat gets too long in the summertime is fairly commonplace, but in my experience, cats are quite adept at grooming themselves. And while dogs might not enjoy getting a haircut, you usually don’t have to worry too much about them fighting back a ton… Whereas with cats, I wouldn’t even get close to them with a trimmer, for fear of losing a limb.
Yet there are groomers out there who offer cat trimming, and there are cat owners who get their cats haircuts.
And sometimes, the results are hilarious (or sad, depending on how you look at it). Meet Jasper:
I can’t imagine what Jasper must be thinking when his sister Luna (who we can assume has been civil with them throughout both of their lives) suddenly has no idea who he is. But then again, the same is true of him after she gets her hair cut…
Then again, cats are kinda stupid sometimes. A comment on Reddit said this:
My cat had kittens a few weeks ago. She chose a location to place them after birth, and if I move them, she completely forgets they are HER babies.
“Those can’t possibly be my babies, I left them over there, not over here. These must be someone else’s kittens. Btw, why are my kittens missing?”
Here’s another example of how something as simple as a tiny hat can completely throw a cat off:
I mean, heck, there’s even video compilations specifically about cats being jerks.
That’s proof enough for me.
But you know, to each their own. If you like cats, and you like getting your cats groomed, that’s all good with me… Just keep ’em on a leash and we won’t have any problems.
