We all love Chewbacca, Han Solo‘s wookiee sidekick, right? Despite not being able to understand anything he says, Chewie is pretty lovable. Perhaps it’s just because he’s one of the good guys, but also the backstory with Han and Chewbacca (and the fact that Han seems able to interact with him without any trouble at all) certainly plays a part in it.
And then of course, there’s Chewbacca Mom, who went viral this summer and reinforced our love for him:
She actually just recently got a laughing Chewbacca tattoo to commemorate her moment in the spotlight:

Whether or not you like Chewbacca, you probably know the sounds he makes. In fact, while working my other job just a couple of nights ago I started making that sound out of the blue, and one of my coworkers from across the store picked up on it right away and said “Hey, Chewbacca’s here.”
What’s even more fun, however, is when inanimate objects sound just like Chewbacca – and now there’s a compilation of such objects floating around the internet:
Some great examples, but there’s more out there – like this cabinet that Chewie MAY be trapped inside:
And these musical geniuses figured out how to recreate Chewbacca’s voice on a guitar!
So while I was in the studio this afternoon looking at these videos, I popped out of the door to grab a sip of coffee. When I let the door close slowly behind me, it made a sound that sounded to me a lot like Chewbacca (at the time). After watching the video back again, I definitely have to admit that it ‘s not nearly as good a Chewbacca sound as the other videos here, but it was close enough that I decided to make a video of it and share it:
Yeah, I know. It could be better.
Anyway, if you’ve ever been curious about how Chewbacca’s voice came to be, check out this interview with the man who played his voice (but turn your speakers up real loud to hear it):
And just imagine how different Star Wars would have been on the whole if they’d gone with the original idea they had for Chewie’s voice:
