At age 5, Sophie Belcher was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Back then, she relied on her favourite band – – the Spice Girls – – for inspiration to fight the disease. She actually dressed as different Spice Girls during all of her treatments!
Flash-forward to a few days ago, as Sophie was having tea with a close friend to celebrate her 20th Cancerversary.
And that’s when her childhood hero Emma Bunton — a.k.a. Baby Spice — walked in to surprise her with a cake and flowers.
Says Sophie, “When I was going through treatment when I was 5, I loved everything that the Spice Girls were about. It really helped at the time. And meeting Emma has been such a positive celebration of my 20-year cancerversary.”
The day was bittersweet though. While Sophie was celebrating her cancer-free milestone, she also reflected on the loss of her mother and brother – – both to cancer. #StandUpToCancer
