The City of Bathurst, New Brunswick is taking a look at a 2005 bylaw that would let it ban trick-or-treating or wearing a face covering after 7 p.m. on Halloween. It would also block anyone over the age of 14 from going door-to-door.
The current mayor says he wasn’t even aware of the bylaw until it recently came to his attention. He believes there have been no arrests or fines since the legislation was on the books.
Bathurst council is going to review the bylaw at the request of some families, who want the trick-or-treating curfew eased and for the age limit to be bumped up to 16.
What would you think of a bylaw like this for Peterborough? Should trick-or treating be legislated to be only for those under a particular age? For safety reasons, should certain Halloween activities end at a given point in time? 7pm? 8pm?
