After so much speculation, Alec Baldwin and his infamous portrayal of Donald Trump were no-shows at the first post-election episode of Saturday Night Live.
Instead SNL’s cold open featured a tribute to the late Leonard Cohen performed by Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton.
These lyrics seem to be the most relevant to Hillary Clinton’s stunning loss earlier in the week.
I did my best, it wasn’t much
I couldn’t feel, so I tried to touch
I’ve told the truth, I didn’t come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I’ll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
McKinnon’s hurt is palpable in her delivery. You’ve got to wonder if she was dispointed in the election results on a personal/career level. The first female American President would have been history making of course but the first female SNL cast member to portray a president is nothing to sneeze at either.
Dave Chapelle’s opening monologue has also got people’s attention. Here’s just a bit.
