Jessica Correa is an absolute dynamo when it comes to All Things Environment. If anyone is going to change the world, it’s going to be Jessica. Her Random Acts of Green initiatives are welcome and inspiring, and she walks the talk.
This morning she was out walking and stopped in for a hot chocolate, carrying her reusable mug. No paper cups for Jessica. As she relates the story, yes she was served her beverage in her reusable mug – but the beverage was made in a paper cup, first.
Kind of defeats the purpose, doesn’t it? We’re trying to save trees, reduce and eliminate waste. And now this?
My first thought is, there might be some kind of health ordinance – either federal, provincial or municipal that governs whether, or not a restaurant employee can serve a customer in their own cup directly. That might be the case, and we shouldn’t diss the food servers and providers until we find that out.
But if there isn’t a regulation in place, then for gosh sakes yes – serve someone who brings in their reusable cup or mug and don’t waste a paper cup to do it.
If there is nothing standing in the way beyond tradition and convenience, we owe it to Mother Earth, our kids and future generations to get this done.
And you don’t want Jessica mad at you…
