This week was a bit of a special one for The Tonight Show. Jimmy Fallon was in Orlando, Florida to launch the brand new Tonight Show ride, Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon.
That quick commercial doesn’t tell us much about the ride itself, but the idea is that it takes you zooming across the New York City skyline before arriving at Studio 6B at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. To launch the ride, Jimmy and his guests spent some time at Universal Studios, and even shot an episode of The Tonight Show there!
One of Jimmy’s special guests is a guy who’s no stranger to The Tonight Show (remember that time he ate candy for the first time in 27 years there?), Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Fallon and Johnson decided to have some fun around Universal Studios on Wednesday, and did the “Race Through Universal Studios” wearing mascot suits of themselves! It started with a competition to see who could get the most high-fives, hugs and selfies, and eventually moved to the two of them photobombing and surprising unsuspecting park-goers about to get on the new ride. It resulted in a bunch of happy people, and one surprisingly emotional response from a full grown man. Watch:
As you can see, most of the reactions they got were pretty predicatble – people thrilled to discover that it actually is Jimmy and Dwayne under their mascot suits… But when they snuck up on this couple, I don’t think anyone expected the reaction they’d get:
As it turns out, that inked-up gentleman is a big fan of The Rock. The Rock t-shirt he’s wearing kind of gives that away.
As you saw if you watched the video, he was moved to tears when the two removed their mascot heads, and then revealed his tattoo of The Rock on his leg:
Now that I think of it, the fact that this dude has a tattoo of The Rock, AND has one of his shirts on seems a little suspicious. It could mean it was set up, although that seems like a pretty genuine reaction, so maybe it is all real. Or the guy’s a pretty good actor.
At any rate, I’d say it’s a safe assumption that he can, indeed, smell what The Rock is cookin’.
Fallon and Johnson also had some fun a little bit later on the show, playing a game of Phone Booth:
You know, despite his 7’0″ frame, Big Show looks like he’d be surprisingly pleasant to share a phone booth with. Big Show also mentions he’s glad he lost weight. In case you’re wondering, he’s down about 90 pounds from where he used to be, according to his recent interview with Conan O’Brien.
It’s probably best he was in Jimmy’s phone booth though, because he and The Rock have crossed paths before…
Mind you, if they’d gotten too close I bet Mankind would have come running in to reunite the Rock ‘n’ Sock Connection. Man, this reminds me of why I used to love watching wrestling as a kid.
