The Chainsmokers are pretty hot right now, with 4 songs currently in the Billboard Hot 100. You’ve definitely heard these songs.
To have so many big hits on the charts right now, these dudes must be particularly talented, right?
Well there’s at least one musician out there who disagrees and shows how simple it can be to come up with a Chainsmokers song. His name is John Fassold, and he is pretty clear in the video description that he’s not really a fan of The Chainsmokers, but he still took the time to break down how to put one of their songs together. It’s vertical video and cut up into 10 second clips because he originally recorded it using Snapchat.
Seems pretty straightforward, doesn’t it? Makes me kind of want to go home and start working on my very own Chainsmokers song written about random objects I find around my apartment.
Thankfully, he’s also got another video where he deconstructs how every Lana Del Rey song is written:
Alt-J is another group that has risen in popularity quite a bit over the last few years. Actually, they’ve got a new album coming out in early June, and will be on tour in support of that this year as well. They’ll be at Massey Hall in Toronto on October 27th. This was the first of their songs I ever heard, perhaps you’re familiar with it:
It’s not the same guy, but there are a couple guys who made a very similar video deconstructing how to write an Alt-J song:
Clearly meant to be a joke by these guys, whose band is called Fleece, but it’s surprisingly accurate.
So, if you’re out there wanting to write a song that’s inspired by any of these artists, you’ve got a leg up on the competition now. You’re welcome.
