It was a finale that more than aptly fit the theme of the entire season for Saturday Night Live. Featuring Alec Baldwin in his recurring role as Donald Trump signing Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” in a nod to an earlier episode when Kate McKinnon (as Hillary Clinton) sang the same song.
Baldwin put a nice touch on his wardrobe by adding a Russian flag to the lapel instead of the usual Stars & Stripes.
The episode also had another great surprise up its sleeve when host Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Tom Hanks came out to declare that they’ll be running mates in the 2020 Presidential election.
The reaction to the final SNL of the season was overwhelmingly positive and overall, it has proved to be one of the best rated seasons in the history of the show. You can check out more video from the episode’s cold open where Baldwin (as Trump) sings “Hallelujah” and an interview with 5-time host Dwayne “The Rock Johnson” here.
With Trump guaranteed his spot as POTUS (barring impeachment) until 2020, SNL’s ratings are surely going to continue their rise and the show will secure its position as the all-time champion of late-night sketch comedy.
