Can you believe that Spongebob Squarepants has been on the air for over 18 years?! Spongebob is a bit of a cultural phenomenon – a cartoon about a talking sponge that is beloved by children and adults alike. I mean, most people think of it as a kids show, and it is, but its wacky humour makes it appeal to a wide audience. I didn’t even really get into Spongebob until I was well into my 20’s, for example – mind you, I’m really a big kid at heart.
Anyway, if you’ve watched the show, you know that Spongebob works at The Krusty Krab, flipping their signature Krabby Patty burgers for a living.
Now Krabby Patties must be good, because Mr. Krabs‘s arch enemy Plankton is always trying to steal the recipe.
And just seeing the way Patrick Star can put ’em away also leads me to believe they’re pretty tasty.
But how does one actually make a Krabby Patty? The secret recipe is very well protected, but fortunately for us, the YouTube channel Binging With Babish exists for that very reason: to create fictional recipes in real life.
The channel follows the torso of Andrew Rea (who goes by his Reddit username OliverBabish) as he creates meals from your favourite shows and movies. One particularly memorable one was when he (kinda) recreated the famous McDonald’s Szechuan sauce from Rick & Morty:
Thankfully for us, one of the latest episodes features Babish making a famous Krabby Patty. It’s simpler than you think! Have a look:
And all this time, I thought it was some sort of crab burger, given the name… Though I guess I should assume that Mr. Krabs ISN’T a cannibal. Well, now you know how simple it really is.
