The questions weren’t hard-hitting political landmines:
- Please take off your shirt
- Pick your favourite kid you’d like to see become PM.
- You like Star Wars, don’t you?
- Will you wear socks with our picture on them?
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appeared on a special “Live With Kelly and Ryan” this morning (seen on CHEX Peterborough) and Canadians were quick to jump all over something he said about wanting to see a woman become prime minister.
Sure. Kim Campbell’s phone probably started blowing up after he said that. But, in his defense, Kim Campbell was not elected in a national vote to be this country’s PM. She replaced the retiring Brian Mulroney in June of ’93. Four months later (in a general election) Kim Campbell lost to Jean Chretien’s Liberals.
(Interesting fact: Day One of Kim Campbell’s ’93 election campaign began at the CHEX-tv studios up on Television Hill here in Peterborough.)
I’m going to cut Justin Trudeau some slack here today. I truly believe he meant to say he’d like to see a(nother) woman elected as Canada’s prime minister.
