Last year, council was considering a $35 fine for parking your vehicle on your front lawn – – which people do, because they lack space in a driveway.
But the idea was divisive back then when it was first floated. Many people said the city has no business limiting property rights. Others said the bylaw would keep front lawns from becoming makeshift driveways for families with multiple vehicles.
In the end, Peterborough city council called for a public consultation. The meetings are scheduled to happen this week and next, and will also cover revised regulations for parking RVs and trailers at home. Council has asked for input as they consider a new parking bylaw.
