Can you believe it’s been a full five years (to the day) since daredevil Nik Wallenda walked across a tightrope suspended above Niagara Falls? I still remember where I was when I was watching it…
As I recall, I had it streaming on my laptop in the kitchen while I was making dinner. I figured he would probably make it across, but part of me wondered what might happen if he stumbled along the way or something… Though I guess nothing would have happened, since he was wearing a safety harness.
Now that was one of the bigger spectator events to happen at Niagara Falls in years, which isn’t surprising when you consider that any attempt to pull some sort of daredevil stunt at Niagara Falls will land you with a $5000 fine, 6 months in jail, or both. Obviously, he got special permission to do the stunt, and it was hyped to the max – so there was a huge audience.
Not so much this time around. It was a few weeks ago that I first saw an article outlining Wallenda’s plan to do this stunt on the 5th anniversary of her husband’s stunt – but even yesterday, some people didn’t even know it was planned:
I’m not entirely sure if there was a specific reason for the timing of this stunt… I mean, one thing would have been daylight – it would be tough to see her perform her routine after dark, but I feel like there might have been a bit of a bigger audience if it was a little later in the day than 8:30 AM. Then again, I sleep in most days when I don’t have to work in the morning, so maybe that’s just me. At any rate, it all seemed to go off without a hitch.

My response when she hit the ground safely was as Wayne Campbell said: “And she’s okay!”
