Wire BBQ brushes have been in the news alot lately – and it’s nothing new. The bristles in the brush can become dislodged and get into food.
I have personal experience with that…
A few years ago we had some friends up to the lake and one of our guests noticed a glint coming from her roasted vegetables. Yep – a bristle from the wire brush.
But how did it get into the food?
Here’s how. We roast veggies on the BBQ in a metal grill basket – which is stored under the BBQ on a shelf. After cleaning the BBQ grill, I used to toss the brush underneath too…and as it happened, on top of the grilling basket.
I can’t imagine the horror – the pain – of getting one of those things in your teeth, in your gums, down your throat.
We don’t use wire brushes anymore. And they don’t go near any implement used to grill food.
We came so very, very close. Other’s haven’t been so lucky.
Be careful out there…
