The MLB World Series won’t happen until October. But for a few Peterborough Special Olympians, the “world series” of their 4-game season will be played tonight on the St. Alphonsus ball diamond.
They’re known as “The Sandlot” team, and they’ve played 3 games this summer against other special needs teams. But tonight, thee Sandlot team will be playing the Ennismore fast ball team for a fun “Championship” game.
Now, I hear this Ennismore fastball team is pretty good; but, I’m putting my money on the Special Olympics team! (Sandlot coach Travis Pink tells me they’ve been practising really hard and they play with heart!)
So, if you want to see some fun baseball – – and the real spirit of sport – – drop by tonight and cheer on our Special Olympians! 6:30…at St. Alphonsus! Go Team Sandlot!!
