The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has ended its investigation involving a collision between a Peterborough County OPP cruiser and a car in late August.
The collision happened on Aug. 23 at the intersection of Ashburnham Drive and Lansdowne Street. The OPP officer was not injured. The driver of the car was taken to hospital for assessment and released later that day, the SIU said.
As a result, Martino says the file has been closed since the SIU’s mandate is statutorily limited to investigations of “serious injuries and deaths” in cases involving the police.
“The SIU is without jurisdiction to continue the investigation and the file has been closed,” stated Martino.
The SIU is an arm’s-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
