It wasn’t until yesterday, as I watched a video of my Facebook friends from Australia singing “Jingle Bells”, that I comprehended how “strange” Christmas down under seems. “Dashing through the snow” just isn’t happening there now…because it’s summer!
Yet, everything is decorated with images of holly, snow and reindeer, while Aussies watch the thermometer reach 30-plus degrees Celsius. And Santa would rather be on his surfboard than in a sleigh with reindeer.
My friend tells me that Australians have taken matters into their own hands, and crafted their own Aussie Christmas carols. Naturally, I was curious.
Imagine, for a moment, that Christmas was celebrated on June 25th here in Canada. That way, you’ll be able to appreciate this holiday favourite down under – – “Aussie Jingle Bells” by Bucko and Champs!!
