Well it took a while but it looks like the Kawarthas Golf and Country Club finally has a solid offer to a big chunk of the current golf course. Here is a media release sent out this morning by AON.
AON Inc. and Kawartha Golf & Country Club are pleased to announce they have entered into a conditional purchase and sale agreement for a 23-acre parcel of land at Kawartha Golf & Country Club.
The first phase for AON will be to complete a due diligence period with the goal of finalizing the purchase late in 2018. The company will now start the approval process with the City of Peterborough to expedite Official Plan and Zoning approvals.
For AON “this purchase represents a foundation of growth and investment in Peterborough for many years to come. Long-term plans for the site include a full-service retirement residence that will offer aging-in-place, luxury seniors apartments, and a mix of apartment and condominium housing still to be determined,” said Brad Smith AON president.
The site offers some unique advantages, especially given its prime location in the vibrant and growing west end, plentiful green space and beautiful views, as well as the opportunity for a long-term and mutually beneficial relationship with the Kawartha Golf & Country Club
The sale, once completed, will allow Kawartha to move ahead on its plan to revitalize the historic Stanley Thompson golf course and facilities. A new clubhouse, expanded driving range and practice area and two new replacement holes are central to the project.
The new holes have been designed by golf course architect Ian Andrew, acknowledged as Canada’s finest golf restoration architect. Andrew has a long history of working with Kawartha and on Thompson courses across the country.
“Kawartha welcomes the beginning of a working relationship with AON Inc., a great local developer,” said Rob Elliott, Kawartha president.
“This revitalization project will allow us to make Kawartha, already ranked the 14th best private/public course in Canada, an even better experience for our members and guests.”
