We often hear the advice: Save your money for a rainy day.
But what if you forget where you saved it?
That was the case for a City of Kawartha Lakes man and now, three decades later, his $100,000 inheritance showed up at a recycling depot in Barrie.
Staff at GEEP Industries in Barrie made the discovery last month when they started to dismantle an old TV. Lew Coffin, vice-president of GEEP Industries operations, says the workers found a cash box with stacks of $50 bills, bank notes and paperwork dating back to 1985.
Barrie police managed to track down the owner, a 68-year-old man from Bolster, who had placed the money in the TV to keep it safe, and then forgotten it was there.
The man had given the TV to a family friend who eventually recycled it at GEEP.
