Durham Regional Police are reporting another snowmobile fatality in the province, this one involving a 16-year-old Port Perry area girl.
Police say a group of 16 and 17-year-olds were on two separate snow machines on Scugog Lake last night. The first machine hit open water and went through. Two teenage boys travelling on a second machine managed to save the boy.
Emergency crews were called to View Lake Road near Caesarea around 10:30 p.m. A police helicopter was brought in for aerial support to provide lighting. The girl’s body was recovered a short time later. She’s been identified as 16-year-old Sarah Lumsden, a student at Port Perry High School.
